I was growing up watching orginal version of Ed Edd n Eddy (it was my favourite cartoon by the way). For people who made translation for Polish version it was impossible to translate ‘Double D’ the way it would sound good. No matter how hard you try it wouldn’t make a good nickname in Polish so they had to come up with another nickname for Edd. I understand this but imagine my surprise when I first watched Ed Edd n Eddy with Polish dubbing and heard everyone call Double Dee ‘Slim Edd’.
This gets funnier with every episode. Imagine Kevin running around and shouting ‘Hey Slim!’.
For our culture it’s not that surprising because ‘Chudy’, so “Slim’ is a quite common nickname. So for the sake of fitting in the dub the translator used domestication. More peculiar is the translation of ‘Sockhead’ into simple ‘Sock’, so ‘Skarpeta’. I grew up on the dubbed version and personally I like it better (which is not surprising) mostly because of the gags and the voices (I think that Double D’s original voice is disturbing).
One of the best mom moments in TV history. I wish more parents knew how important it is to validate their children’s feelings.
What this is so beautiful
Marge tried real fucking hard sometimes.
